Two weeks ago I finished a unit of tonal charcoal drawings with my year 9s (thirteen year olds) and have been working through marking over 50 works today. Self portraits, they worked from photographs taken on the Mac's camera and produced these large (A2 = A4x4) charcoal works. Here's a sample - no names no pack drill - but they all look like them and I'm very pleased with the results:
Burn brightly, Pete
They're some impressive 13 year olds! Capturing personality as well as features must be difficult and I can see personalities.
ReplyDeleteThey are fantastic aren't they! Committed to the process the students have produced the goods brilliantly. The fourth girl in the sequence told me she was "...crap at drawing, Look in my journal if you don't believe me". She was really pleased with her effort and its great to see some of the girls with a new spring in their steps when they discover what they are capable of. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when the works go home next week - some parents may have to buy a bigger fridge to put them on.
ReplyDeleteI like number 4, she looks inquisitive and challenging...is she? And the final one looks lively and a bit naughty. Am I reading them right?
ReplyDeleteNo 4 is a little quiet, but I don't know them all that well yet. The final one is quite lively and a character. All of them are lovely and a great bunch of year 9s - I look forward to my classes with them and they are the highlights of my working day/week. They've worked really hard and their commitment has paid off with some results that I'd be pleased if I the equivalent work got from Year 10s. A great and talented bunch of girls and I'll be really interested to see what we get out of them in the painting unit.
