At a friend's prompting, I recently took the Myers Briggs Type Indicator test again - something I haven't done for about 25 years.... I'm INFP! Your type is not supposed to change and that is true for me, although the weighting may have shown a slight shift - possibly because I have been more honest in my self-appraisal this time round and answered with less wishful thinking or projection of what I wish I was. In a previous incarnation I was required to be far more decisive and judgmental regarding work, staff and aesthetics. These days I am less so - evidenced with my answers and my own view of myself. (Mind you, I will spend a week my Mother in the next few days so some of that judgement side of my nature will probably come into play a little more.)
So it's been a telling exercise again this time round and I've found the exposition section on the types far more challenging and helpful. I was surprised to read so much about integrity and loyalty which I know is a part of me, but at times I think I lack. Above all there is the idea of the quest - I'm always off to slay a dragon, despite my own lack of self belief and shortcomings.
This seems to be the month of self- absorbed introspection so I apologise for the morbid readings and reflections. Hopefully next month I'll turn it around and you'll see some Cole Porter lyrics and Ogden Nash poems appear on the pages (There was a valiant attempt at levity with a piece from Red Dwarf - I'm trying!) So, if you haven't taken the MB test or know what your number is on the Enneagram (I'm a Four : The Individualist - BIG time! in case you hadn't worked it out), I'd urge you to give it a go. I had a friend who poo-pooed personality typing years ago, saying it was closely aligned to horoscopes in its nature and science, until he read his Type in the Enneagram and burst into tears due to the absolute accuracy of the description (and he was and Asperger's sufferer as well!)
So give it a whirl - it's on the net in one form or another - it might help you understand yourself and your place in the universe a little better.
Burn brightly, Pete
