Take a Trip Away with the Everyday...

Chair & Fabric  2011 - John Honeywill
I've just spent Friday evening at exhibition openings at two galleries, but particularly wanted to mention the work of a friend and colleague - John Honeywill - who has a new showing of oil paintings at Philip Bacon Galleries in Brisbane. I've been present at many of John's exhibitions throughout the years, from his very first in country Queensland in the early seventies to these more recent ones here in Brisbane. John's work has developed as he's honed his skills to a delicate and fine touch and his new exhibition of still life pieces are quite exquisite, demonstrating a deft hand and great sensitivity with light and paint and are not to be missed.

Eggs & Bowl 2010 - John Honeywill
Trained by Bill Robinson, John has followed his dictum of taking the mundane and everyday and presenting well known objects in a new light - imbuing them with an "otherness". Like Morandi's delicate works of simple household utensils and shapes, John has created a body of works over the last decade or so that explores stillness and invites the viewer into a reflective and meditiative process... all captured tenderly and exquisitely in oils. Burn brightly, Pete
