Went to my son's graduation tonight at Southbank Institute in Brisbane. Quite a short ceremony with a good mix of the formal and informal and an interesting mix of graduates from a variety of faculties for this mid-year graduation ceremony. Arts students were last on the program - possibly because they were the rowdiest and most celebratory, revelling in the achievements of their class mates. My son had completed a 2 1/2 year course in acting - compressed down due to classes every day of the week, unlike other Diplomas or Advanced diplomas. He somehow managed to attend every class during that period - not taking a single day off due to illness or a mental health day. It was great to see the arts students accept their diplomas wearing their Converse sneakers along with ties.

Caught up with an old mate whose daughter has just graduated in Events Management - interesting that both our kids have taken an academic pathway early in life. My buddy Steve and I both didn't get formal qualifications until we were in our thirties - attending night school and college as adults to get our degrees. Lovely to see him there as well and for the families to get together for the celebration.
