Help for Introverts (2)

“The fact is I am terribly shy. Or maybe introverted is a better word. But introverted, shy, whatever, it stays with you whether you’re a star or not. I think people become actors and actresses to overcome just that. You can become so many people.”

Help for Introverts

Hand blown glass hermit crab shells, are hand blown by Robert DuGrenier in his Vermont glass studio. Taking care to pose no harm to the crabs, Robert has imitated the interior shape of each of his hand blown crystal shells, following the spiral formations which accommodate the contours of a hermit crab's body.

The land hermit crab needs a shell to protect its soft abdomen. In the wild, they have always used different types of shells or enclosures they find as temporary homes, which they discard for a different shell when they outgrow it.
Glass shells provide such a temporary home for the crabs. The wild shells were and still are being collected in nature by humans without knowing that they are causing a major crises for wild hermit crabs. The thought of creating a blown glass shell which could be marketed (www.glassshell.com) to the pet world would possibly help out this problem. An artistic aid for Introverts...
