Bureaucratics

Dutch photographer Jan Banning travelled across 8 countries over 5 continents to photograph office workers across the globe and show us what ordinary citizens would see when they walked into these offices. It is a comparative photographic study of the culture, rituals and symbols of state civil administrations and its servants, selected on the basis of political, historical and cultural considerations.

There is a high degree of humor and absurdity in these 50 photos and interviews, but they also show compassion amidst the state’s paper labyrinth. Banning's site also gives basic wages as well as explaining the subject's position or role - the woman below earns approx $100 per month.
