First official images from the set of Joss Wheedon's Avengers movie have been released on the Entertainment Weekly site, including a gallery of the main stars with Johannsen & Downey Jnr from the film.

Peel and Piazolla

Ahhh - another day of holidays ..... lazing around listening to Astor Piazolla's Tangos and watching old episodes of The Avengers (the Mrs Peel cool 60's variety, not the Marvel comic version - although I've seen a few of those on ABC 3 this week as well). Nothing too taxing at the moment - just catching up on reading and thinking and feeling very alone in an empty house for most of the day. I'm almost finished my John Shannon novel; have started re-reading Kenneth Clark's work of genius on Landscape (I'm planning on watching some of his old TV series on Civilization next week, if time and family schedules allow); I have also caught up with washing and doctor's appointments (did you know there's no real cure for Tennis Elbow other than rest? - Goodonya Doc!); transferred some old State of Origin matches from VHS to DVD (only the ones where Qld wins); washed and tidied to Piazolla's fantastically sensual music (just how erotic can a piano accordian get?), and generally rested.

And somehow I will have to force myself to put up with a whole week more of this again next week! Tomorrow I get my son to drive me back to Coolangatta to rack up hours on his Learner's log (30 down, 70 more to go!) and I'll make another foray into the world of secondhand books. So think of me hard at it tomorrow making my way down to the sunny Gold Coast while you're working wherever you find yourself. It'll be hell!

More Avengers

Joss Whedon’s The Avengers blasts into American theatres on May 4th, 2012. These on set photos, were originally posted on Dark Horizons, and show the cast in costume and apparently in action at the NYC locations that included Central Park and Park Ave.  

Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston were photographed in full costume in Central Park. Above is a shot of Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Jeremy Renner in full regalia on Park Avenue. It's getting closer folks.

Avengers on Location

A shot taken on location with the new Avengers movie currently being shot by Joss Wheedon of Buffy fame. This scene shows Captain America battling extras suited up for what will eventually become aliens/humanoids via the magic of CGI.

Avengers Assemble

Joss Whedon of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame has begun shooting The Avengers this week in the US with Cleveland standing in for New York City.  Police cars with NYPD logos whizzed by, extras were running down the street screaming as part of a battle scene, which was among the first to be shot in Cleveland. Whedon plans to shoot exterior sequences throughout the rest of the week  in downtown Cleveland. Images are now up on the web with live footage of the shooting caught on mobile phones. Basic looking images at first glance, but its good to see it under way and the film will give the aging JLA cartoons from DC comics a run for their money with this big budget effort.

I recently saw Captain America in the cinema here in Australia and there was a brief preview at the end of the film featuring some previous Marvel stars from recent films like Thor and Iron Man. Robert Downey Jnr had a nice line in the teaser  but I'm not sure if it was a teaser only or actually part of the upcoming Whedon film. It'll be interesting to see how the stories are reshaped and updated to explain the whereabouts of the Cosmic Cube which shifts through a few different story arcs. And the special effects bill for this feature will be amazing with the likes of the previous marvel characters plus newcomers like AntMan etc.
