Batman Reboot
For those of you who are not purveyors of Low Culture, you might be interested to hear that DC comics (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash) have recently rebooted their entire line. This has involved them shutting down all existing storylines on their 52 comics and starting again with a new set of origins in a bid to attract new and younger readers. They have successfully done this already with some of their brands like Batwoman where the character was re-introduced as a Jewish lesbian redhead with a socialite background - a radical departure from the previous incarnations of Batwoman, but one which has garnered a new following and created a new gay icon.
DC Comics successful re-launch of its entire line in September resulted in at least six of the publisher’s comics selling over 100 thousand copies led by Batman #1 which managed a very impressive total of 188,420 in the US. Might be time to drop into the comic store again and check some of The New 52 out.

Come Back Michelle....
Some of the latest photos from the set of the latest Dark Night Rises show Ann Hathaway in her Catwoman suit looking very Lee Merriweather-like, a throwback to the 1960s Batman Tv series. These shots show her with cat ears on and looking quite distanced from Michelle Pfeiffer's performance in the 1980s. Note the stilettos - perfect attire for a master criminal/jewel thief.
For some reason I find the images of the motorbike far more edgier than Ms Hathaway and the more scenes I see coming from the sets, the less I'm becoming inclined to see this latest addition to the canon. Of course, when its released and I see the trailers, I'll change my tune. Still... Hathaway seems less convincing than Eartha Kitt in some of these stills (and the motorcycle stand seems very convincing as well). Come back Michelle, – all is forgiven!

Dark KNight
DC comics have announced three direct-to-DVD animated features produced in
conjunction with Warner Premiere for release in 2012. The first feature
will be Justice League: Doom, followed by Superman vs. The Elite,
which will be based at least in part on Joe Kelly’s politically-charged “What’s
So Funny about Truth, Justice, and the American Way?”
But evidently pleased with the way that the
adaptation of Miller and Mazzuchelli’s Batman: Year One turned out, DC
has decided to create a feature-length animated version of Miller’s epic saga of
an aging Batman, The Dark Knight Returns.
